It should have been all downhill from here. Relaxing, three meals a day, visiting Ensenada and then flying home.

and tonight is the 2nd formal night. Phyllis has washed her hair. In order to keep from getting water all over the bathroom floor, she stood in a corner and turned the water on to get her hair wet and then turned the water off, and only turned it on again to get the soap out of her hair.

The big news is that she got a phishing email saying that her card was frozen because there was an unexpected charge on it. So after breakfast we went to the internet cafe, and the internet guy said that he would call down to the front desk and they would let her call her bank. So she did that and her card was not frozen. It was a scam.

I wore the dress E gave me for the 2nd formal night. And Judy and Becca and George ate with us.

While the dress was good, the menu was not a hit with me. I had the salad which was to have a choice of dressing, but they all had vinaigrette dressing because if the waiter asked me if I wanted vinaigrette, I didn't hear it or get a chance to answer.

I had the lobster tail with Louisiana style crab cake, and the lobster tail was small and I didn't care for the crab cake.

At dessert, Becca said that Princess used to have a different flavor of souffle every night but they no longer did that. Tonight they had a vanilla one, so a lot of us had that.

I had been having a little pain in my right leg like I did right after I had the hip replacement. Tonight it got worse, bad enough that I couldn't sleep.

23 February 2022

In the morning, Phyllis brought me a bagel from the Lido, and got her own breakfast. About 8:00, I called the front desk to ask for a wheelchair to go down to the medical center. She the medical center was not open until 9 and she would send someone about 8:55.. But he didn't arrive. I called again at 9:30 and this time he arrived. We went down to the medical center only to find a sign on the door that said -

No walk ins - appointment necessary.

I don't remember seeing that I needed an appointment anywhere and I did not know how I would have gotten one. There was an emergency medical number aka 911 on the phone, but this wasn't that level of emergency. A nurse that came out said I could have an 11:39 appointment. So I went back to the room and dismissed the wheelchair guy.

This time I decided to use my scooter instead of waiting for a wheelchair. After I filled out the paperwork (and Phyllis came with me and went up to the desk and signed for me) the male nurse came and took my BP, temp, oxygen and interviewed me. Then I saw the doctor who examined me. He said I hadn't thrown my hip out of the socket, but that if it didn't get better in a couple of days, he would X-ray it to be sure. And the nurse gave me an injection in the hip muscle and some Tylenol with codeine to take. Not to drink alcohol with the pills and take them every 4 hours. He also said I could take 3 Naproxen a day instead of just 2 if I wanted.

We went to lunch and I ordered soup and pasta, and the soup never arrived.

Then I wanted a apple and apricot cobbler with vanilla ice cream but with mint chocolate on the side.

They brought the cobbler with chocolate ice cream. I think we got a lot of new workers on board in Hawaii. Phyllis had the bread pudding.

I came back to the room - took a pill and went right to sleep and slept for 2 hours. I took another pill about 4. When we got to the Wheelhouse bar, I ordered an Arnold Palmer but they don't have iced tea there. So I just had a grapefruit juice

We went to dinner by ourselves as no one else in the group was eating in the dining room. The menu didn't sound that good, but it in person it was good.

I had the always good cocktail shrimp and Phyllis had the grilled eggplant stack,

which she liked even though she didn't expect to like that much since she doesn't like eggplant. Next I had what was called Roasted Beet Salad with mandarin orange, goat cheese and walnuts. I wasn't sure I wanted roasted beets.

But actually the only beets I found in the salad were two or three tiny slivers of beet. Phyllis had the Gazpacho which was spicier than she expected. For a main dish I had fajitas.

Phyllis had the turkey hot pot with a sweet potato crust. Her turkey was very hot - not spice wise, but temperature wise, and the sweet potatoes were on the top. It really looked like a sweet potato casserole as the turkey was covered with sweet potato. I just had ice cream for dessert and went back to bed and right to sleep after dinner.

I got up in the middle of the night and set my computer and my phone back an hour, and took another pill and went back to bed.

Woke up this morning about 6:30. Reset my watch. We went to breakfast and I had pancakes. Nothing about the breakfast in the dining room really appeals to me now. They don't have waffles. The special was Mexican omelet but when I have had that on Princess in the past I didn't really care for it. I like the one I got on Carnival better. So I got the stewed apples

Came back to the room and after I wrote the last email I was so sleepy I couldn't keep my eyes open so I went back to bed. Phyllis went to a cross stitch event. She is making a really neat necklace pendant in cross stitch. I woke up about noon. Refreshed and without pain.

For lunch, we went down to Alfredos, the pizza place on deck 5

I ordered a regular cheese pizza but Phyllis ordered a fancier one. They brought us both the same pizza so she had to send hers back. The pizza was good, but not that much better than what we get right outside our door on deck 14. Less greasy.

I logged on to George's zoom call late - I figured it would be about 1:00 LA time. It was a nice chat.

It is too cold and windy to swim in the pool (although there were a lot of people in the hot tubs). And the water in the pool is now a wave pool - when the ship bounces around the water in the pool sloshes around.

We ate dinner (no one from the group were going to be in the dining room so we went down and asked to share). They put us with a lady from Scotland who had also asked to share, but hadn't been able to until we came along. She had already had her appetizers. She tested negative before the trip, tested negative at the pier, but when they tested us the day before we arrived in Hawaii she tested positive. She spent the whole Hawaiian part of the trip in quarantine. I had been afraid that the same thing would happen to Phyllis - I'd done this same trip before, but Phyllis had never been to Hawaii.

It was Italian night, so we had soft bread for a change

25 February 2022

Pretty much same old, same old. I am really tired of the breakfast menu but the Lido is difficult for me. On the 25th we went to breakfast in the dining room and a just had half a grapefruit and one fried egg. I am actually tired of eggs.

George gave us a complimentary dinner at the Crown Grill and it was Formal Night also. Our dinner time was 8:10, so we went to lunch in the MDR. They had some strange things on the menu - chicken soup with meatballs? The man next to me got that and it was clear soup with one little meatball. Semolina Cream Soup with shredded lettuce? No one was brave enough to get that. I tried making lettuce soup once and it was not a success. I had a salad with artichoke hearts,

The steward left our luggage tags for us - we are in Purple 6 - the last group of people who have the Princess transfer to the airport, getting off the ship at 8:55 am

26 February 2022

So this morning I just went the buffet for breakfast. Princess has all hard rolls at dinner and they are good but the crust is crumbly. So I had a soft roll, an English muffin, and a piece of bread with butter and jam. And got another bottle of water. Judy made a comment about carbs, but I don't subscribe to the theory that carbs are bad.

I went by the Guest Services desk to ask if we could be Purple 5 instead of Purple 6 and get off at 8:35, and they said yes and gave us the Purple 5 luggage tags. I asked them again about what to do about the luggage that we were not going to take on the plane. When I asked on the phone before I was told that of course I had to put the tags on the luggage. So this time once I finally got them to listen to my question, they went into consultation mode and finally said that someone would come to the room to get the luggage that I should not put it out in the hall with the purple tag on it.

Last time I did this, they originally said to put the luggage out with the rest of the luggage and then they changed their minds and said someone would get the luggage. And an officer did come and get my one suitcase. But then it got lost and I didn't get it for 2 weeks.

When I started to pack the suitcase, I found the directions for the Luggage forwarding, which said - put the suitcases out the night before, collect them in the terminal, go through immigration and a representative will meet you in the terminal. If I had remembered that, I would not have needed to ask

We came back to the cabin after lunch and practiced packing the rollator. Then since we had late dinner, we went to tea. This time I was there early enough to get a scone and clotted cream. I didn't get any last time I went to tea. Phyllis went to the craft lesson again before we went to tea I could see her on the app on deck 7 - she got confused and went the wrong way on deck 7 but we were eventually reunited at Tea

We got dressed for dinner and she looked very elegant. While we were dressing for dinner, I got a call from guest services - they changed their minds and we were now to put the luggage out with the purple tags on it and the luggage person would meet us on the dock to take the luggage. Apparently they called them and asked.

As we walked past the Crown Grill at about 5:15, we asked if we could go early and they seated us. Phyllis went to tell George where we were. Although we missed the formal night menu in the MDR (it was supposed to be the best one), we had a really nice dinner - we each had the tiger shrimp appetizer,
Black tiger prawns

and Phyllis had the shrimp bisque and I had the goat cheese and tomato salad which actually had some small cubes of beets in it.

Then we each had Filet Mignon (which was the smallest thing we could have). I wanted mine medium rare and Phyllis wanted hers medium but they were both the same - medium rare. We had a little of the Himalayan Mountain Pink Salt (said to remove toxins from the body),

and creamed spinach.

I also had asparagus and Phyllis had potatoes. I was disappointed in the spinach - they didn't have the cheese cracker with it like they have on HAL.

We both had the creme brulee for dessert.

After we got out of dinner, we stopped by and had our photos taken. The photos were pretty good, but we only had one free one, so I made Phyllis get the one of herself. It was too expensive to buy one of me and I don't really need it. When I got home and unpacked my suitcase, I found she had gone back and gotten the one of me and slipped it into my suitcase.

My feet and ankles are very swollen. It hurts to put on any shoes. I find that my hip (and knee) are Ok all day long but when I get into bed to go to sleep, they immediately start to hurt. I think it is the mattress which is kind of saggy.

Tomorrow we will be in Ensenada, and then we disembark. I decided that because of my hip and swollen feet I didn't want to fly coach, so I upgraded our tickets to First Class. They said I had to do both tickets, so I did, and didn't tell Phyllis how much it was because I didn't want her to feel obligated - since it was my idea.

27 February 2022 - Ensenada

Breakfast

Breakfast

Went to the buffet for breakfast and tried the rice dish that looked like cereal (Okayu?) - and didn't like it - I don't want garlic and spices for breakfast. I also had scrambled eggs and some fruit.

Before when I was in Ensenada, I got off the ship and looked around a little - there were some shops at the pier selling silver, OTC drugs and drugstore stuff and gifts. After I scootered around I got back on the ship and had pizza for lunch.

Ship in Ensenada

Ship in Ensenada

But when we got off the ship in Ensenada today, I found that the shops right by the ship were closed. Not closed because it was Sunday, but vacant - no merchandise on the shelves. Closed because they had no business during covid. They had shuttle buses into town, but I decided it would be more fun just to scooter around. There was a Carnival ship on the other dock. When we went past that, and crossed some bridges,we got to some stores. Phyllis wanted some hairspray but mostly what was for sale was souvenir T-shirts and the like and there were places to eat. I bought a couple of things.

Just like last time we had pizza for lunch. We put our suitcases out before we went to dinner.

We all gave the waiters our extra tip, and we left money in an envelope in the cabin for the cabin steward

28 February 2022 - Disembarking

Set and early wake-up call and Phyllis went to the buffet and got us a few things. We were down in the handicapped holding area by 8:00. We were getting off on deck 7 and our regular waiting area was in the casino (!!) on deck 6. I was afraid if I went down there, that I wouldn't be able to get an elevator back up to deck 7. So we went to the handicapped area on deck 7. The man in the next cabin had his own wheelchair so we sat with them on our respective mobility assistance devices. We were in the same group - purple 5. When they came to get him, we followed. Off the ship and down the long winding path to the luggage area. After we found our three bags, and got a porter (a nice lady), we went through immigration. They did not want to see our passports and no one asked us what we bought. All they wanted to do was take our photos.

Right outside the door was a man with a sign that said "Luggage Free" My luggage was going by Luggage Forwarding, but I was persuaded that it was the same thing, so we turned my suitcase and the rollator box over to him and asked which of the 10 buses we were to get on. They told us bus 12. At bus 12, they asked us which airline, and marked the scooter and Phyllis's bag with United (that was the airline) and we got on the bus. We left for the airport about 9:15.

We were the last ones off the bus. They stopped at Southwest, American twice, Alaska and Canada airlines before they got to United. Because we were first class, our luggage was free. They gave me a wheelchair to the gate. They also fed us on the plane.

The plane arrive at 4:30. E and Bill were stuck in traffic - after the plane landed it took them half an hour to get to us from when they turned off the freeway. They brought Chik-fil-A for us to eat.

They were in Phyllis's car so they dropped me and the scooter off at their house, and Phyllis drove on to her house.

1 to 2 March 2022

As my feet were unswelling, I spent some time each night waking up and going to the bathroom. E was able to get all my stuff (the package that I had mailed to her and the clothes I left at her house) into the computer bag. We didn't even charge the scooter first. I gave the things I bought for E to her. My flight on Southwest on the 2nd (I had thought it was the third, but the 3 was for March) was very early so I got up early and E got me to the airport about 5. with the scooter in the scooter bag and needing a wheelchair. Since it was so early she was able just to leave the car and get me a wheelchair and check the scooter - with the battery and charger in it.

When I got to BWI, Bob was there. He unpacked the scooter and put the backpack in the scooter bag. I rode the scooter to the car and we drove home.

The rollator box came first, and then a couple of days later the suitcase arrived. I got everything unpacked. The gift I bought for Bill came a couple of days later. I sent the books I bought for the great grands. I never found the gift I bought for Bob so Io I ordered another one for him. My ankle swelling eventually went down, and my appointment with the doctor helped my hip.

I think Princess needs to update their factoid on pink salt instead of removing toxins they actually contain more heavy metals than white salt Chicken soup with meatballs isn't that unusual to me. I have had it a couple of times and it I find them pretty tasty. One of my favourites is Thai style with herbaceous meatballs.

by Teoni

I don't salt my food and eat very little prepared food because of the salt, so I just tasted a little of it for fun. But I think that the more heavy metals makes scientific sense. Although I wonder what it is that gives it the pink color.

I do not eat much (or any) Thai food - my husband is not a fan and I am always uncertain about the amount of heat. Most of the time if there are round things in chicken soup I expect matzo balls. Meatballs would be good too.
